After a abbreviated spring break we are now back in Hanover for the start of spring term. The end of winter term saw many members of the team riding the edge between sanity and insanity in an attempt to survive finals period. This included Matty Ice compiling a novel's worth of writing in a sort of thesis-essay-project-dissertation fusion that definitely pushed him over the edge to insanity. After spending the break living amongst the trees and growing a manly beard on Mt. Moosilauke with Joe Carey and Bradley J, his mind has returned to its "normal" state.
Also, Silas turned in two really impressive ski races at the end of term to become a 2-time All-American at NCAAs. Yay!
(btw the DP2 shirt that he wore is none other than Matt's, which makes the shirt a 2 time all american as well, needless to say Matt may be sporting it a bit more now)
A small group of us went down to Raleigh, NC for the break to get in some training in a warmer climate. Unfortunately, it wasn't that warm down there (and subsequently John Bleday was unable to sustain more than 1 sunburn, a fact that upset him greatly) but nonetheless it was a lot of fun and we got some great trail running and 3 solid workouts in. Notable (positive) experiences were:
1. Phil wearing his Marvin the Martian pants everyday. This actually isn't notable anymore.
2. Jonny convincing all of us to go to Jumbo China Buffet for dinner. There were some sketchy items there but it wasn't all that bad.
3. Will, Phil, and myself playing a lot of League of Legends, a really nerdy computer game that is going to require some weaning off of now that school has started.
4. Phil arguing.
5. Luke, Henry, and Will racing at the mythical High Point University. Luke had a nice opener in the 800 and Henry and Will both ran the steeple where they ran good early season times despite both running into at least one barrier (video of last lap water-barrier below; Hank goes for a swim).
5. Watching Ben True '08 finish 6th at World Cross to lead the U.S. to a second place finish in Poland while waiting in the airport. A great day for Maine, and therefore the world.
The late snowstorm is going to keep us off our beloved trails for a little while longer, but hopefully it will begin to feel like spring here soon.
